Go to the Design tab on the tool ribbon at the top of Word and click on Page Color. NOTE: I want to point out that I definitely do not want to print my document with a black background and white text, I only want to view the document that way when I’m editing the document. This rationality wasn’t doing much for my headache, and I was determined to find a fix for it.
MS WORD DARK MODE FULL
They don’t want the user getting confused and thinking that it will actually make them print a full sheet with a black background and white text. Afterall, a lot of documents get printed or sent as PDFs, and they want you to get a feel for what the document would look like if you were to print it. I totally understand why Microsoft Word doesn’t let the office theme change the background and font color of the document. The Trick for a Real Microsoft Word Dark Mode I wasn’t totally content with this, but I found a trick that takes this one step further. That’s a start, but the brilliant bright white of the document area was still burning away at my retinas.

I got pretty excited because it seemed like that was exactly what I was looking for, but to my chagrin…Īlright, so changing the office theme only makes the surrounding area (including the tool ribbon) darker. On the General tab, under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, you can change the Office Theme to Black. While in Word, click File and go to Options.
MS WORD DARK MODE PC
(Note that I’m using the PC version of Microsoft Word, not the mobile version) It reminded me that Word had some settings for changing the theme, and I wondered if they had finally added a dark mode. I was using Microsoft Word the other day, and working on a long document and I was starting to feel a headache coming on.

For those of us who spend a lot of time in front of screens, it can be a huge difference.
MS WORD DARK MODE ANDROID
Twitter, Amazon Kindle, Evernote, Gmail (on Android 10), and Firefox (on iOS) have all deployed a mode that makes the background of the application dark, and the text light.įor most, this makes it easier to view your screen in a dimly lit area without straining your eyes. We’ll show you a way around it to help save your eyeballs a lot of strain.ĭark mode and Night mode options have been showing up a lot lately, especially in mobile apps. Microsoft Word’s take on this has been, well, less than desirable. Staring at a screen for too long can be irritating, and some even experience headaches and exhaustion from it.įortunately, a lot of common applications have been deploying dark or night modes.
MS WORD DARK MODE WINDOWS
If you're willing to put up with a few bugs, you can join the Windows Insider program's Beta Channel and grab Version 2012 (build 13518.10000) to test the feature today. If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer, eye strain can be a big problem. Perhaps even this month or the next, if we're particularly lucky.

However, provided user feedback is positive, we should see it roll out soon. The slightly-revamped Dark Mode is not available to all just yet only Windows Insiders can experiment with it. Instead, if Dark Mode is on, you'll eventually be able to click a "Switch Modes" button to swap between the normal white canvas and the new dark gray alternative. If you don't like the idea of a dark canvas for whatever reason (perhaps you're working on a color-sensitive document), you'll be pleased to hear that this feature is not mandatory, and it isn't being automatically bundled with Word's broader Dark Mode functionality.
MS WORD DARK MODE SOFTWARE
This should make it far more comfortable to type when the sun is down, without needing any third-party apps or tools (such as screen-dimming software or blue light filters). By toggling it on in Dark Mode, you'll be able to alter the colors of your document to better match the rest of the UI. Fortunately, that'll be changing: Word users will soon gain the ability to darken their canvas, too. While it does invert the color scheme of the various menus bars, over half of the screen - the space where your document sits - is still a blindingly-bright white. Something to look forward to: Anyone who has ever worked on a Microsoft Word document late at night can understand how insufficient the software's so-called "Dark Mode" is.
